Painting
I craft objects that capture the essence of the fleeting moments between thought and feeling, that space in-between where I register the forms and colors. This creative process yields a visual language that transcends emotions, rationality, and the socio-cultural norms that often ensnare us in stereotypes.
HERE IS NO LONGER HERE
As we embark on the exploration of Queer and gender rights, we find ourselves immersed in the intricate web of sociocultural impositions and constraints. Within this thought-provoking context, we turn our gaze towards the presence of the erotic, not as a force that drives identity and action, but as a mirror that reflects its meaning within each individual and in society as a whole.
I examine the complex realm of impulses, the relentless pressures to conform to established notions of femininity and its iconic representations as determinants of gender. In the very idea of possession, the transformative power of visuals and appearances, and the bewildering commodification of this multifaceted identity. It’s a way of life where femininity is both a commodity and a currency, but in escaping these conventional norms, we may discover paths and limitations. This dystopia paints a vivid picture of conventions that suffocate us with their limiting labels and behaviors, whenever a label is imposed.
In my creative journey, I craft objects that capture the very essence of those fleeting moments suspended between thought and feeling – the space in-between where I meticulously document forms and colors. This artistic process gives birth to a visual language that seeks to transcend mere emotions and rationality, liberating us from the chains of sociocultural norms that often imprison us in suffocating stereotypes.
It’s about the act of assuming a pose, the omnipresent pressure of conformity, and the commodification of one’s identity. We navigate a marketplace where individuals are ensnared by an idealized image of beauty, femininity, and desirability – a market that tirelessly seeks to define us.
Solo exhibition taking place from November 7th to December 7th at Galeria Santa Maria Maior in Lisbon.
